Swap Magic 3 8 Ps2 Iso Splitter
From the files you have, hopefully the DVD files not CD files. 1) install CD_DVD-rom Gen, Dummy File Creator, and iml2dvd 2) Create a Dummy file.
I'm not sure of the size you need I don't know the size of the files you have. Just make it as big as possible, maybe around 1 gig if there's room. Just keep total file size under the size of your SM 2.0 disk and it should due. 3) Run cd dvd-gen and select create new project then select DVD-ROM Master Disk 4) drag all SM 3.8 files and folders + dummy file into CD_DVD-Gen. 5) Click Volume tab and insert SCES 50003 in the disk name field, put PLAYSTATION in producer and copywriter fields. 6) Click file at the top select Export iml file.
7) Choose destination and wait for file creation, then close CD_DVD Generator 8) Now open iml2dvd and choose your newly created iml file. 9) sit back and wait for your iso to be created then burn with Alcohol 120% or Nero.
Aug 21, 2008 How to burn Swap Magic v3.6 to DVD or CD so it will work with PlayStation 3? Burn swap magic. Swap magic is used by the PS2. Swap Magic 3.8 Iso.

Me it all works perfectly, but when it come to run the game, their a short loading. Then the screen stay black Hi, Did you defragment the game files? Did you check any of the compatibilty lists to see if the game is compatible? Not all games are compatible. If your using the latest versions of OPL the games shouldn´t be patched. OPL also doesn´t work with games that are ESR patched. Have you tried more than 1 game?
You can also try another program, like USBInsane to get the games to the usb device. If your using a ps2 disc, you can use a program like DVD decryptor or IMGburn to make the ISO first and then use USBUtil. There´s alot of things you can try. Sometimes patience and effort will go a long way but there are some games that won´t work no matter what you do.
I haven´t posted here in awhile because I just end up saying the same things over and over again. Plus there´s alot of other people here that have been real helpful and patient:) I will summarize a few things for people just getting into this. There´s a real easy way to know if your PS3 is ps2 compatible or not If your PS3 has 4 usb ports then, YES, it is ps2 compatible.
If it´s ps2 compatible then, YES, you can use OPL and ps2 homebrew with Swapmagic. If you only get a black screen when trying to boot an elf with Swapmagic, 99% of the time it´s because the usb device is not compatible. It's been so long.
How you guys doin (aries, gliitch, samson)? Its all peachy over here.
Raining outside, a dead dell vista laptop w/o cd drive, weekend off. Fun, check WinToFlash if you ever come across the same problemo:) I was reading, and saw 0.7 just came out. Should I even update from 0.6 to 0.7? The same games in my collection that didnt work on 0.6 still dont work on 0.7 via usb, but update to this if you want a few new nice shiny options. Widescreen, covers, IGR and lots more.

Dont work still. Lameo:( Dookie, try raidenIII and the others in 0.5, i know raidenIII does work in 0.5 on the ps2.
I've played it:) edit i'll start a list of games that work in 0.5, over on the ps2 section sometime in the next few days as i think its the same problem games on both consoles. So far i have about 4 games that dont work in loaders 0.6 & up, but do work in 0.5 if everyone could test on ps3 this would be confirm that i am right.

I really do regret updating to 0.7 cuz it did nothing for the few games I actually have lolz. The ones that already worked still work though. Thanks EDIT: Also, could someone link me to the dl page for 0.5 version? I used USBtil.

My 750gb ps2 fat boy has been retired since OPL network function worked on the ps3. I may not have swap magic anymore but I guess I can re-install the good 'ol swap switch and have my way with my PS3:aetsch. Just so everyone knows, Sony DID block USB loading with swap magic as of fw3.30. Even I gave some bad info as well because I took the words of a moderator here as being facts(never again). Thanks for the insult, but just because something isn't working for you, doesn't mean that it isn't working for other people.
I was wondering if anyone can clear this up for me as I am not going to before I know for sure. I've read that the same 3.21 update that kills the Other OS also kills the USB ports on the PS2 side of the PS3, so swap magic will not work for homebrew loading anymore. Confirm or Deny? If anyone is still using OPL past firmware 3.21, please announce to the world Also you asked about 3.21, not 3.30, so my advice wasn't false nor wrong, if Sony blocked the USB access to the PS2 part of the PS3, they would also be blocking the many PS2 peripherals, control pads, eye toy, i could list many other devices. Sorry for not being clear.Sony blocked SWAP MAGIC USB access on the ps3.
All other games that use the USB as part of the game is still intact. Was not really trying to insult you, Iwas just a bit mad, that everywhere else but here confirmed the update did in-fact remove the usb function of swap magic, but come to find out this is not the only method of loading OPL. This is probably why it still worked for most people, just their methods was not clarified, and facts got messed up. I apologize for the low blow, as it is my own fault I updated, but what facts I gathered here was not accurate either.
But everything is all good now as I am using OPL on my 3.40 PS3.until they kill network access on the ps2 side. Been messing around with rev409 and got the apps menu working, all that needs to be done is to copy a ' conf_apps.cfg ' to mc0/OPL/, this what mine looks like.
Check these babys out. ('('('('they work with rev409, make a ART folder on the root of mass, image names are the app name including the.elf followed by _COV. SwapMagic usb access has not been blocked on higher firmwares. Are you sure your using a usb device that is compatible with SM? Using the same hdd I've used with my ps3 since the beginning(same one from fw3.15 and under). I'm no noob to the scene. I literally have TWO 60gb ntsc PS3s, one with linux on fw3.15(swap magic works just like always) and one on fw3.41(swap magic usb stopped working at 3.21). With all the different variables(model, region, firmware and software emulation), would you guys be willing to help me narrow down what is going on?

I haven't and wont be updating my PS3 past 3.15, so i cant really try to check anything for you, but aries2k is 3.40, so perhaps he could check:).
No, swap magic loads just fine(3.6 and 3.8 coder).when I get to where I press 'up + L1'(3.6) or choose 'smboot0'(3.8 coder), the PS3 freezes. Both discs work on my PS3 60gb NTSC with fw 3.15. Do you, or anyone else, who say this still works for you, have a ps3 with software emulation by chance?(80gb NTSC or 60gb PAL) Reason I ask, there is a significant difference in SMB performance between the US 60gb and 80gb models. PS3s with software emulation(80gb) for b/c literally suck with SMB loading, while the original 60gb PS3 has less stutter than a PS2. Maybe $ony said if it sucks for you, you can keep it. Using the same hdd I've used with my ps3 since the beginning(same one from fw3.15 and under). I'm no noob to the scene.

Hi stayhye, Sorry, I didn´t mean to imply your noob, it´s just strange that it´s not working for you. I searched around the net and I couldn´t find many people with this problem. I know I_Oliveira at psx-scene also has the same problem. He also has a 60gb NTSC ps3, I think.
Since both of you guys have ps3´s with the EE chip that makes me go.hmmm. It can´t be because of the region because I have a PAL 60gb ps3(no EE) and denero has a 80gb NTSC ps3(no EE). So this could be one of those wierd problems caused by some side effect from newer firmwares. It can´t be an active attempt by $ony to block SwapMagic though.
I could explain why but i feel like we´re hijacking this thread. I want to make another thread about this because I did extensive testing since FW 3.21 but I´m dead tired and wont have some free time until Monday. I´m more than happy to try and help you find out exactly what the problem could be. We have a mystery and I´d like to help solve it. Oh ya, I might have some questions for you in an area that I´m a total noob. I know you have the swap-switch and a game to install to the hdd;) @mowglisteven delete those 0.3rc versions. Grab the newer versions of OPL 0.6, 0.7 and the power defragmenter tool.
If you have trouble with those you can always try ver 0.5, which is less picky, but still better than 0.2b. You don´t need to patch ant IORP files with the newer versions. Remember ther are still some games that won´t work no matter what you do. Videos are almost always slow when running from usb. Has anyone got any games to load via SMB with OPNPS2LD_rev409 on a PS3. When I load a game the screen goes black and I have debug colors turned on My Setup 80 gig Original PS3 Swap Magic 3.6 20 gig external hdd you never said that you was using SMB in your pm's, what os is your pc on i have read that windows7 is a git to set up, i am on usb so i cant help but there maybe some answers on these ps2 opl threads, and i have also read that the.iso needs to be in lower case not.ISO but '.iso' did you try usb??
I don't think SMB is the problem. SMB was working with the old opl 7 build. Is anyone having compiling issues. I can't compile. I did have a couple of warnings on my last compile but i know they are trying to implement the vmc stuff ATM.
What is the latest compile code? Not sure what you mean with compile codes, heres a link for yoshis last vm. Its what i use to compile opl. But if smb works with opl0.7 i'd use that for now untill the vmc stuff becomes stable.
I'll make a new opl buld later to see if i get any errors. Edit rev419 compiled fine in yoshis vm using the scripts, if anyone wants it let me know i've got work in ten minutes so it will be laters:). Has anyone got any games to load via SMB with OPNPS2LD_rev409 on a PS3.
When I load a game the screen goes black and I have debug colors turned on My Setup 80 gig Original PS3 Swap Magic 3.6 20 gig external hdd I have same problem with newer builds, my last working version over SMB is r323, but all of the latest version I have compiled r404 r399 r386. Don't work with same symptoms.
Connection to PC is OK, list of games is OK but NO games loading. Just black screen I am using yoshi's last vm for compiling My setup 60 GB PS3 model CECHA01 Swap Magic 3.6 Wired connection to PC. Hello Samson. I'm still having SMB issues with rev 419 aswell. And do you know how to submit a game fix to ifcaro. This game needs to be fixed.
It freezes at loading: Gantz SLPM_659.50 sorry i dont know how to submit a game fix, i think you need a bitbucket account, then pull request i guess or send jimmi a NICE message asking about your game and the SMB problem on ps3. But remember what he has done and also how busy he is. Big, huge respect from me to all the ps2/ps3 dev's and coders for all the past, present and future hombrew. I do pictures i do. New theme/opl background @ gamer78 this may help.
I've updated to OPNPS2LD Rev425.elf via Yoshis VM. The ps2 games still won't boot. I managed to get some of apps working. The SNES and NES emulators don't work though.

I hate to ask a dumb question but how do I get to the syshook.c in virtualbox. I'm not that good at navigating through Virtualbox syshook.c is file in folder opl/loader You have to change OR delete one line in this file and than compile OPL the line number in latest version r426 is 276 and file is looking like this around this line. Int i, r; t_ExecData elf; DPRINTF('t_loadElf() n'); ResetSPU(). Some easy commands are 'cd.' Go up one folder (space needed between cd and.) 'ls' list the files and folders in the current folder 'cd*****' the '*****' are the folder name that you want to open with these few commands its easy to navagate round.
Here's what i've cooked up for a new opl theme. A WIP but not looking to shabby.
Just extract whole folder to THM folder on usb root. Something else worth looking at is the padhook.c in loader lines 130 to 134 i tryed changing the second path of the IGR to mass not mc but it didnt compile. Also its better to edit files in windows with a editor like crimson editor http://www.crimsoneditor.com/english/download.html.

Snes Station, Snes9x,FCEU and InfoGB. I could compile Snes9x with the necessary files but it´s only an alpha release and not worth it really.
Plus we might be seeing a new release soon. I´m not sure which version ps3 you have but the normal FCEU doesn´t work at all on the ps3s with no EE chip. Here´s a version I compiled to run without psxloader and no EE chip The latest revison of InFoGB by KarasQ does work with psxloader.
I recompiled it replacing LIBSD with freesd so it would work without psxloader. I couldn´t get Flashback working at all but if you have a ps3 with the EE chip you should give it a try with psxloader, most likely option C (SMS). I took a look at the source code and it only seems to need LIBSD. The SMS option will load that file. Oh ya, you can use OPL to launch psxloader and use that to launch SNES STATION.
OPL has become my main program although ulaunch.elf is still good for launching apps when you don´t have the configuration file setup. Yes you need to copy a ' conf_apps.cfg ' to mc0/OPL/, this is part of mine just to give you an idea. Hi, I'm new and I didn't know where to ask for help on this. Anyway I just got swap magic 3.8 coder, and I put the necessary files on a flash drive (my psp) and when I go to SMBOOT1 it doesnt load anything. It just remains frozen. Is there anything I did wrong?
I'm wondering why it didn't load? Is it my ps3? I have a Motorstorm edition ps3 with the 4 usb ports. Thanks in advance. I think aries2k's workaround is the easy way. Boot SM 3.8coder as usual and then choose the SMBOOT menu 2.
Once your in the smboot menu, eject SM and insert another original ps2 game. Choose your smboot elf as usual Even though SM is already booted up, once you hit the eject button the ps3s security has to validate the disc and check the game ID. I hope this helps you get into the wonderful world of ps2 homebrew.
Hi You guys I need some please I have a 60gb launch PS3. It is on firmware 3.15 I am trying to get swap magic 3.8 to work but every time I go to SMBOOT0 it just freeze trying to load off the usb can someone plz help me. Thanks have you tryed this way? Find a way to put the SMBOOT? On the virtual memory card instead(mc0:SWAPMAGIC/SMBOOT0.ELF).
And you could also try this.
Also try another pen drive or any other usb mass storage device in fat32 to boot from a SWAPMAGIC folder with a.elf named SMBOOT0.ELF=D-pad(UP)+L1 SMBOOT1.ELF=D-pad(UP)+L2 SMBOOT2.ELF=D-pad(UP)+R1 SMBOOT3.ELF=D-pad(UP)+R2 I recommend uLaunch as a start as you can boot other homebrew from it, uLaunch 3.28 with ps3 usb drivers by aries2k good luck. As soon as I started using a memory stick, it worked.
Also, I did the PSN PS2 COMPATIBILITY download before hand as a precaution. Now It works perfectly, and OPL and Ulaunch work well. My next question is, what should I do with my newly activated Ps3? Awsome, feels good?
First off i'd try a few homebrew games and emu's. Like p-gen 1.51s (me & aries2k modded this) ps3 swapmagic emu thread. Ps2 custom apps thread. @ anyone with full hardware can you give this a go, if we can get radshell working some of you guys would have a usb ps1 emu. Also i am working on adding menu music to opl if anyone has any ideas on this? Same kind of.mod file that p-gen uses, you will also be able to change tunes as the.mod file will be external to opl, hopefully in a folder on usb.
I finally found a way to make it work. Thanks all for the help. As it turns out, I was using my HD and my psp as the USB devices.

Glad you got it to work. So if I remember correctly, you have a 60gb NTSC ps3 with the EE chip and your using SM to boot from usb. Cool, although I already had confirmation from other places it´s nice to finally see it here.;) In the super-easy tutorial it says rename USBLD_0.2b.elf file to SMBOOT0.elf In the download pack there is already a file named SMBOOT0.elf, do i just copy that file into the SWAPMAGIC folder? Sorry if i sound inexcusably thick, but im pretty stoked about playing SF3 and may save me time later. Cheers:) The tutorial is a litltle outdated. Just grab whichever elf you want and rename it to SMBOOT0.ELF and put it in the SWAPMAGIC folder on the root of your usb drive. Then just boot SMBOOT0:ELF, easy.
Sure you can try USBLD_0.2b but I would also try some of the newer OPL elfs. I was just wondering how up to date the compatability lists are for OPL. I was looking at them and they said Kingdom Hearts worked fine with a little stuttering on some videos, but when I try to load it it just freezes on a yellow screen. Should I just re format my usb device and try doing it again because something might have gone wrong?
Ya, the OPL lists aren´t exacly up to date because of all the changes going on with the program. I would use the power defragmenter tool to defragment the individual game files instead of the whole drive.
Hey, I used power defragmenter to defrag the game files but I'm still getting stuck on a yellow screen when I try booting KH. Is there anything else I could try to fix it, or maybe drop down to the version in the compatibility list seeing as it says it works fine there? I think you have answered your own question, but you could try re-ripping the game with usb insane or usb extreme there is a few reasons opl is giving you a yellow screen -bad ISO rips -fragmented game files -incompatible USB device i hope this get it working for you. It works on ps3 120 hdd? Greg said no, so no it does not work on the 120gb ps3 and all new users search, read then ask, i mean the thread title is. Load PS2 ISO's on PS3 via USBADVANCE (External HDD) [20/60/80gb NTSC/JAP/PAL SKU] so this method works on a USA PS3 80GB with no ps2 emotion engine? Read the thread title, YES IT WILL WORK if its a fatty i myself have a 40gb(fat) pal ps3 (minimus JB), so i use OPL on my slim ps2 (free mcboot) and another thing DUDE if you cant use usbutil.
Learn how to use it its a very easy app to use, you do not need to touch the.cfg. Click file-load.cfg click file again - create game EASY it gets boring very quick answering the same ol questions over and over and over and over and over again. Try finding the answers for yourself before asking, the internet is a tool, use it.
Sorry about the rant lads but seriously these questions have been answered more than a few times. Sometimes with pictures geerrrrrr samson mad!!!! So ps2.elf's are not the same as ps3.elf/.self(compiled to make.pkg). I think thats what your getting. Well i got my usbutility to work but now ill have to wait till there is a solution ware it can load ps2 games on a none BC ps3. Me too, but while you wait as it could be a while, go buy an old ps2slim £35 mod it with your swapmagic disc (install free mcboot) and enjoy all the ps2 homebrew on hardware it was made for.
Its worth doing. All for the price of a newish ps3 game and very little space for the ps2, lol and looks funny next to a fatty ps3 both vertical. Just a.pkg format ps2 homebrew launcher would make me a very happy chappy at the mo. Hello everyone! I'm having some issues loading ps2 backups through the USBadvance method. I've tried to do some research through this thread, but got through the last 15 pages and gave up. So here's my issue: ).
I have an original launch NTSC ps3 (60gb with the ee). I can load swap magic, get to the ifcaro screen, and launch the games from the menu. The problem, though, is that the games either don't load or have terrible lag. I've tried Shadow of a colossus, grim grimmoire, and Grand Theft Auto. GTA is the only one that loads up, but it is painfully slow. The other two don't even load.
I've tried three separate USB devices (one of them didn't work at all). Should I be using a more up-to-date software? Sorry for all the questions. The only reason why I ask is I have missed out on the anything playstation exclusive. The idea of being able to play ps2 back ups is appealing as its getting harder to find ps2 games.
And the lag from loading on usb would be alittle painful. Would the load speed be any different if they were on a usb hdd or thumb drive? Jeepers dude READ.
The video lag is due to your ps3 being in ps2 'mode' after loading swapmagic and the usb speed on ps2's are 1.1, using a true usb hdd reduces the lag a lot. Lol daja vu;) again and again. So does anyone know how to add more than 1 game in same usb/psp? Yes everybody but you. Open usbutil click file-load.cfg (usb root) click file again - create game (iso or cd/dvd) EASY @ rax909 it needs to be in swapmagic folder but you could try copying the.elf and the folder to vmc and launching it from there. @ dookie11 dard dude bad eggs, does your hdd work with other stuff on your ps3 like music & video's?
You could also try this. OPNPS2LD_ps3_427.ELF (reset spu fix) (a bit old but it works.
@ deneo1 i've not needed to defrag for ps3 games(JB) but i cant see any harm will come from trying, LOL i've not touched my ps2 for months. Transformers WfC is too awesome:rock. Dropped my external drive on the floor (2 foot drop). Now, no games play (NBA 2k11 nor MK Shaolin Monks--they were working a few days ago).
I reinstalled MK Shaolin, and have been defragging every time before I go to play.but still gets stuck at a yellow screen. Should I redo the entire thing, or buy a new hdd? Also, what's the newest version of OPL?
Never mind, fixed my issue. Dropping the hdd scrambled the file.only 1 file as far as I know.
It just happened to be OPL (SMBOOT0). So I replaced it with a fresh one, and voila, I'm throwing hats and fatalitying Baraka again. My model: fat 60hk zone jp, swap magic 3.6+ fw: 3.15 usb: sandisk 8gb fat32 game tested: dragon warrior 8 us, wild arm 5 us result: all ok but slow update to 3.41 to use jailbreaks usb: sandisk 8gb fat32 game tested: dragon warrior 8 us, wild arm 5 us result: yellow screen then hang but work great on lan anyone had this probelm. Defrag your drive.
Whenever something hangs, its usually cuz you need to defrag, or in my case, replace the OPL file cuz it got corrupted when I dropped the hdd off of my desk:) Hope this helps! Just got this working on Ps3 A couple of questions: 1: for some reason Swap Magic would not read the info on my hard drive. Because of this I put in a USB stick with just the boot files and then it loaded. It then was able to read my 1.5 TB hard drive no problem. My current problem is it by default shows my 128 MB memory card instead of my 1.5 TB hard drive until I pull the USB stick out.
Is there a way to switch in the menu to another hard drive? Videos load very slowly (reminds me of playing games with scratched discs back in the day) I understand this may be a limitation but over 100 pages later in thread I was just curious if anyone came up with a way to pick up the pace. Thank you for your help. Thanks dookie. Yes i got my PS3 at launch and wont get another for any reason because I WANT my PS2 games playable on it.
(Still haven't beat P4, Digital Devil Saga series or Tensei Nocturne so I have HOURS of PS2 to play with those alone) However I rarely, if ever, get import games so I didn't know if doing this was worth it yet. But Namco X Capcom is too tempting to pass up. So would Swap Magic v. 3.8 be sufficient? Im pretty sure it is, but im not 'savvy' to these things lol.
NxC works for me. Just make sure you have a 'translated' version otherwise, its boring haha. I havent even played it yet though.
SM 3.8 should work. The tuto should be somewhere here, if not on teh first page. Lol im such a noob at this lol. Im thinking an ISO file should've been in the game I. Acquired, but it's THIS: How to I get that into a file to put on my PSP like the tutorial vids in th opening post say to do it.
YOu need to extract the RAR file first. Then download USBUtil and install it to your external.
It's not a matter of simple drag n drop like on the PSP or PS3. Have fun googlin or reading the first page of this post:) It's actually very pretty easy, cuz the tuto's offered on the first page are very straightforward imo. Ummm but which of those 10 programs listed (with horrible descriptiosn) would be the one I would use to split the file?
I'll give you a clue its one of the pc programs & i think you mean descriptions. And the info is fine if you read. USBUtil v2.00 FULL (english): (To install games from iso,cd,dvd and patch games etc.) if you need any info on the programs, search for it. Like this 'USBUtil v2.00 FULL' google search (i also recommend using OPL v8 as you can use other loading methods like full iso's over smb.
I wanted to ask what exactly I'm doing wrong. I had to use the PSP for this since my hard drive doesn't seem to be compatible, but it seems to boot everything up just fine after starting up SwapMagic. So SwapMagic detects the PSP, loads its stuff, and from there I can boot that.elf file on the PS3 memory card. Then It goes into USB Loader, and I see the game I want to try out right there in the list. So everything's detected just fine.
But when I try running the game, it just goes to a black screen and stays there. I'm wondering, is the problem because of the file size? Or is it because I'm trying to play a Japanese game? I've tried using both USBExtreme and USBUtil, but the files they output the.iso as appear to be identical. And neither started up after selecting the game from USB Loader. What could be the problem? What is it I'm doing wrong?

What is it I'm doing wrong? You need to have the ps3 sytems that play ps2 games. Action replay will not work on the ps3. Tried it years ago.
Yes you tried it, I tried it, my brother tried it, my cousin tried it and even my dad tried it, we all tried it probably, I'm asking if anyone knows of a way to get it working on ps3 3.55 as I have heard it worked on PS3 2.40 or an earlier firmware. I figured if there was a way it worked before why not now, if Sony placed some sort of block then what is it?
Can it be removed/bypassed/exploited? PS:Hope the beginning wasn't harsh in anyway, it was meant to be a joke. It does not work. So that 2.40 theory can be thrown out the window. Hi, I am new to this thread, but I have one questions that I looked all around Google and can't seem to find an exact answers, only really vague ones. I have a US 60GB PS3 with the most recent firmware that has backwards compatibility. Also, I just recently bought Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, and patched the game up with English text into an.iso format and burned it on to a DVD-R. Now from what I know, it is not possible to play Japanese PS2 games because they are region-locked.
From what I've read, people found workarounds using SwapMagic 3.6+ along with USBLoader. So I then decided to buy myself SwapMagic, but then I heard that current firmware does not allow the use of SwapMagic. Does SwapMagic work on most recent firmware? Is it possible to play my Japanese PS2 game on my PS3 using other methods? Your not going to be able to play anything from a hard drive or burned disc period with OFW right now. PPL are working on and close to cracking the OFW but there is NO way of playing anything other then movies and muisc from an external HDD with this OFW.
Swap Magic won't do any good because as soon as you eject the swap magic disc from the ps3, is going to sense that you ejected it and close out the game back to the XMB. Well don't know if it still works but in the original method for this the cover was removed from the PS3 and the drive and a quick swap was made instead of pressing the eject button. BTW: This method really shouldn't be done in my opinion as it is not in a sense a 'clean' exploit', it requires you to disassemble the console. A better exploit would be to make the console just play backups in the first place using software (not quite possible yet). Ok so i have a launch PS3 (60gb Console NTSC) 4.0 OFW I have swapmagic v3.8 ok so i launch USB Loader it works im using a scandisck 8 gb flash drive.so when i try to launch GTA San Andreas (backup ps2 game on usb) and few other games. I select start game from USB Loader and it takes me to a black screen and it just Flashes sounds. Im using a SD television and the game is a backup of my friends dvd i copied it from the computer.
Any suggestions. In the meantime i ordered an External HDD it is a toshiba.the usb is Fat32. Edit: San Andreas Just Worked but the screen is Rolling up and down u could see the the game menu but screen is rolling Up and down. Give everyone a chance to help you before sending me pm's. As for GTA-SA's screen rolling it sounds like you've got a PAL game on a NTSC. And use Open Ps2 Loader.
Its a lot better than usb loader. But good to know it still works on ofw 4.00. Thats my bad:dontknow:.thanks for the help.the games is working i can confirm it for ofw 4.0 on usb loader but when i try OPL 0.5-0.7 it gives me a yellow screen( with Defragmented game).ok soo when i play San Andreas (doesnt buffer at all) off of the usb it flashes a black screen every ten seconds i could tell that whenever it does that its trying to load from the usb.so if i were to get an external HDD would that fix the problem??
(i ordered an External hdd for 70$ off newegg, hope it works). Hello, Currently I have CECHA 60GB BC FAT PS3 NTSC [4 USB, Launch Set, Full Hardware Emulation]. The Firmware is Rebug 3.55.2 I have few questions running PS2 backups on my PS3. I am aware that I need the following.
Swap Magic 3.6+/3.8 2. External USB HDD [FAT 32] 3. Open PS2 Loader 0.8 Questions 1. Should the games in the USB Drive be is.iso format or Should I use USB Extreme to copy them to the HDD?
I am aware that there is Swap Magic Plus Coder 3.8 has cheat functions. Once I boot to Swap Magic Plus Coder 3.8, Say I select the Cheat function and enabled the cheats for the game that I want. Will I be able to boot to OPL 0.8? And from there on can I select the game? If the game boots, Will the cheats be enabled? Does not work. Is there a way to enable Cheats?
I have Codebreaker v10 ISO. Should I load Codebreaker v10 ISO, enable cheats and go back to OPL 0.8 and select game?
Can I able to play games from JAP and PAL? Can I able OPL 0.8 to use Network (SMB) in PS3 so that I could load Game via Network from Windows? I hope someone could help me clarify them. I don´t think the cheat function works on the ps3. I was never able to get it to work.
My ps3 is the PAL 60gb which doesn´t have full hardware capabilty like yours so you might have better luck. I´m not sure. I never used Codebreaker. Yes and I heard your version of the ps3 gets better speeds through network this make use of the extra transfer Do you mean if the ps3 uses usb 2.0 speed?? It still uses usb 1.1.
R3QU13M, I just recently obtained a CECHA01 from GameStop. I was asking for a PS3 that would 'run Linux' for a programming class at school.:) I just received Swap Magic 3.8 Coder for NTSC and haven't had any luck yet getting it working. I'm on OFW 4.11 but will downgrade soon. Following the instructions on a ps3hax tutorial, I keep getting stuck at 'USBD.IRX LOADING ERROR'.
I have a PSP and I heard that would always work as USB storage, so I'll try that as a last ditch effort. I wish you the best of luck.
Hope you have a hardware flasher for NAND. Let us know of your progress. R3QU13M: I wish I could assist your quest. Unfortunatly, I do not have a Swap Magic disc. I feel noobish for asking this, but where/how did you obtain your copy?
I was informed that those discs could not simply be 'burned' because of some physical attributes that allows the disc to be launched in the first place. I wish you the best of luck. I was informed that those discs could not simply be 'burned' because of some physical attributes that allows the disc to be launched in the first place. I got outbidded on Ebay for actual discs that was disappointing because they were going for cheap, but I resorted to other means and tried to mimic Swap Magic. That is the most logical reason why probably I was unsuccessful. That is the most logical reason why probably I was unsuccessful. Yo, that really sucks. There could have been a lot of research that could have brought us closer to using Cobra's methods for backups using those. But, all is not lost. I still say it's only a matter of time. Awesome effort though.
If you're willing to tear apart the ps3. You should be able to use a swap disc with swap magic embedded into the second disc. Swap disc as in any ol' original PS2 disc for the start up and then a second disc with the SM code burned onto it?
Damn, now I wish I had a test BC PS3. Thanks for the interesting thought.
Are you saying, that even now - that is having CFW and all that - for playing PS2 backups, one still needs 'external tricks' like SM 3.6?? MultiM does support copying of PS2 discs, but those copies won't work - just black screen; original does work, though (GoW II) p.s. I do have SM and played around with it long before going on CFW, but the compatibility really sucks (not that of USB, I got a drive that works; the game-compatibility is really bad) p.p.s. Not that it matters, only have two PS2 games (GoW I & GoW II) - just curious;-). What actually is Cobra? - another CFW?
Or some homebrew running on Rogero? Is this a pure software emulator? Don't want that, my PS3 plays PS2 games in hardware, so no chance for a lame s/w emu. Anyway: the forum search didn't reveal any useful results, where can I get more info about Cobra? And this is one of the reviews posted long time ago here on PS3HAX, if you use the search function of the forums, you will get many results. This is so BAD tutorial, not even a tutorial, its more like.
BLAH BLAH some more blah blah blah. Load and you're done.
WHAT THE ****? Sorry for my frustration, but. HOW do i load SWAPMAGIC????? There are no instructions whatsoever. So i copied the SWAPMAGIC on my usb flash drive (FAT32 1gb) i plug it into port 1, THEN WHAT??
It doesn't magically boot up, so where do i go? How do i boot up SWAPMAGIC? What do i press? How do i know what version is my ps3?
Jap or usa or eur? I dont know how to find out, so i don't know what to rename the files to. Nothing is happening. This is so BAD tutorial, not even a tutorial, its more like.

This is a tutorial on how to boot Playstation 2 ISO's on the PS3 via external HDD. The original founder of this method was ifcaro, this tutorial is a step-by-step method on how to get PS2 ISO's to run on your PS3. Original thread can be viewed here (PS3Hax takes no responsibility of damage caused to your PS3 through this method, and all information here is for informational/educational purposes only. How to play PS2 ISO's on PS3 via USBAdvance (aka USBLD) PS2 backups playing on PS3 via HDD - YouTube ((Video by idone) What you need: Swap Magic 3.6+/3.8(Purchase here (here ((Must be actual copy, burned copies do NOT work).
Launch PS3 (20/60gb) - NTSC/Japanese (Must have emotion engine, only launch PS3's had this). Flash Drive (PSP in USB MODE will also work).
Here is the EASY and suggested method: Here is the SUPER EASY method to run USB Loader. Create a folder on a compatible USB Device (ie: PSP) called SWAPMAGIC. Place the USBLD_0.2b.elf file (DOWNLOAD HERE: in this folder and rename it SMBOOT0.elf 3.
If you are using the same drive to boot the game from place it in the root of the drive. Load Swap Magic with the USB Device in the FIRST USB port. Press UP and L1 and USB Loader should boot. Press X for a PAL console or O for a NTSC console 7. Wait for USB Loader to boot and select your game.
JBDgDpyqh-E Long, Old method, use if you have issues with easy one. If you are a Japenesee PS3 user you need to rename the folder BADATA-SYSTEM to BIDATA-SYSTEM -This guide will assume you are a USA user and call the folder 'BADATA-SYSTEM' in the download pack. Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack (Extract the contents of the folder USBADVANCE to the root of your flash drive/PSP. Boot up SWAPMAGIC and once loaded into the menu screen, people who are using swapmagic v3.6 press UP (on D-Pad)+L2 on your PS3 controller to browse through your flash drive. People that are using Swapmagic v3.8 go to the SMBOOT menu and select uLaunch from there.
In the pack provided uLaunch is SMBOOT1. Go to configure, select any button you want (I usually use X or O), go to MISC and select FILEBROWSER binding it to the selected button, go down and hit ok. Now go to the browser. (Props to Crono (for telling us how to use v3.8 Swapmagic). If you are unable to view your flash drive, then it is not compatible (use another one). Copy the BADATA-SYSTEM folder and USBLD_01.ELF file to your Virtual Memory Card (on PS3).
Go inside BADATA-SYSTEM folder and cut/move the Pictures and SWAPMAGIC folder to ROOT the Virtual Memory Card. Remove your FLASH DRIVE, press the (PS) button and quit the game and go back to XMB and launch swap magic. At this point you should move the Playstation 2 ISO's of your choice to your external HDD/flash drive. You need to have them properly formmated and copied over via USBExtreme or USBUtil (is included in file you downloaded above). If you are not sure how to do this, there is a quick tutorial that guides you through the process. Make sure your USB/Flash drive is plugged into your PS3. Once booted, browse and launch USBLD_01.ELF And there you have it, if you followed this tutorial properly you should see the Playstation 2 ISO's there and just click and launch How to copy PS2 ISO's to a external USB/flash drive Method 1 Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack ((Ignore if you downloaded it in last tutorial), and extract the folder USB EXtreme to you desktop.
Plug in your USB HDD (or Flash drive) Put a PS2 game into your disc drive (if the game is already on your computer you can mount it with Alcohol 120 (Open up the USB EXTREME tool on your compute. Select your Disc Drive the PS2 game is in, Media type (most are DVD's) and your USB/Flash drive. Now you can name the game and hit start.
There you have it a properly copied game to your HDD, just pop it in your PS3 and follow step 8 from above. Method 2 (Easier Method) Download USButil located here (Format your external drive/usb drive to FAT/FAT16/FAT32 format. In the download pack you downloaded there should be a folder called USBUtil, go inside that and run the EXE. Go to FILE and click on 'OPEN ISO to create game'. Search and click on your PS2 backup, and click CREATE. The program will now copy the ISO over to your pendrive (it takes some time).

Im not some geek i just want to play ps2 games on my jailbroken ps3, thats all. If its obvious to you to use some bootloader or bought iso, then it isnt for simple people who have never done this before.
